Chapter 16
I wanted to forget about everything going on with Cole. I also wanted to forget about Jake. At least for a little while. Zoe had given me a chance even after I'd royally fucked up, and I needed to make it up to her. I planned our whole day, and she had no idea. She slept soundly, as I packed what we'd need in the saddle bags of my bike. All that was left to do now, was wake her.
I slipped quietly into bed beside her, kissing her soft lips. She stirred, a small smile forming where my lips had just left. “Good morning.” She sighed, snuggling against me, her bare leg rubbing over my board shorts. “Why are you dressed?” She asked, with a hint of laughter.
“Because. I'm taking you somewhere.” I said, kissing the tip of her nose. “Let's go.”
“Where are we going?” She asked excitedly, sitting up in bed.
I laughed, her enthusiasm spreading through me like lightning. “It's a surprise. Just don't wear a dress Babydoll, we're taking my bike.”
And with that, I made my way down stairs. After a quick shower Zoe joined me, dressed in a pair of cut off jeans and a white tank top. She wore ankle boots, with a heel, and her hair pulled back into a pony tail. I was just zipping up the saddle bags, when she grabbed for the extra helmet I kept for her. “Can I drive?” She half teased. She'd been begging me to drive my bike since I'd given her a ride home on it.
Truth be told, she made me nervous. I'd seen the way she handled her car, and if it was any indication, she'd be hell on wheels behind a bike. Not to say that it wouldn't be sexy as hell, but I'd let her keep thinking it wasn't going to happen. At least for a little while.
I strapped my own helmet on, and when I felt her arms wrap tightly around my waist I smiled. Her body pressed against mine in any compacity, was enough to do that. I started the engine, and the bike roared to life. Zoe's grasp instinctively got tighter, as I put the bike into gear and pulled from the driveway.
It was early, so the air was still cool, the humidity not yet taking over the day. The wind against my face as we drove down the high way towards our destination was welcome. After the first half hour, Zoe rested her head on my back, her hands occasionally brushing across my chest. She was comfortable, and safe, and knowing that I made her feel that way, made me feel important. It was something I never felt from another human being before, and I never knew how much I needed it until her.
When we finally arrived, it was a little after eleven AM, and my stomach grumbled loudly. We hadn't had breakfast, but I knew we'd find something here. When Zoe removed her helmet, and climbed off the back of the bike, I watched as her eyes lit up.
